Graduate Programs
Students enter with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Upstate offers master’s and/or doctoral degrees in Medicine, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Cardiovascular Perfusion, Public Health, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant and Medical Technology, as well as dual degrees (MD/PhD, MD/MPH).
Behavior Analysis Studies
Behavior Analysts are licensed health-care professionals who provide therapeutic services for individuals with autism and related disorders. Service delivery might include conducting assessments of problem behavior or language deficits, developing treatments to reduce problem behavior and increase pro-social behavior, consultation, and caregiver training.

The College of Graduate Studies educates students through it's Biomedical Science programs to be discoverers, leaders and innovators of biomedical research.
Clinical Perfusion
Perfusionists use special equipment during cardiac surgery to keep a patient alive while the patient’s heart is stopped for repair. Our students handle 30 to 40 simulated cases before performing more than 150 clinical cases at our affiliated hospitals.
Dual Degrees
The MD/PhD program trains future physician-scientists who combine clinical practice with biomedical research to understand and treat disease. The program takes about seven years, and includes a tuition waiver and stipend throughout. Medical students can also pursue the MD/MPH (Master of Public Health) degree. It is possible to complete both in five years, instead of the six it would take to complete each separately.
MedPrep Academic Enhancement MS in Medical Technology
SUNY Upstate Medical University's Medical Scholars Medical School Preparation Program offers the opportunity to earn a Master's Degree in Medical Technology in preparation for application to medical school. As a rigorous one-year program, the Med Scholars Med School Prep program gives students the opportunity to strengthen and cultivate their academic, clinical and analytical skills. Norton College of Medicine
Our medical students learn in an academic medical center setting that includes a Level-1 trauma center, children’s hospital, cancer center and biomedical research enterprise. The curriculum emphasizes clinical relevance from the start, leading to rewarding clerkships starting in third year. Our “match rate” for graduating students into medical residency programs is consistently higher than the national average.

College of Nursing
Upstate is the only nursing program in the area that is part of an academic medical university, and the first in the region to start a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program. We offer part-time and full-time and flexible scheduling for working nurses. Some classes offer a combination of in-person and online instruction. Tuition assistance is available for RNs working at Upstate.
Physical Therapy
Our students have short-term, integrated clinical experiences plus 36 weeks of full-time clinicals in four different practice settings. We have strong performance on licensing exams and excellent job placement. Our graduates consistently score higher than New York State and national average on first-time and ultimate passing rates on licensing exams.
Physician Assistant
The PA profession is one of the fastest growing in the country. PAs have backgrounds in nursing, emergency medicine, the military, sports medicine, exercise physiology and other fields. Our students serve clinical rotations primarily in rural or medically underserved communities during the 12-month clinical phase of the 27-month program.
Public Health
Public health professionals assess causes of health problems and develop prevention and treatment methods. They are at the forefront of investigating problems such as the Zika Virus, lead poisoning, gun violence, disaster preparedness, obesity and social issues associated with poverty. Our Master of Public Health students come from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds.
