Wilderness Medicine Fellow Description

The Wilderness Medicine Fellow is a residency-trained Emergency Medicine Physician who undertakes specialized training to gain knowledge, independence, and leadership skills necessary for delivering the high quality medical care in resource-limited environments.  The Fellow's responsibility will include didactic and experiential learning and teaching, research in austere and wilderness medicine, and clinical duties at Upstate Emergency Department sites.  The Fellow will also have opportunities to provide on-line and off-line medical direction for outdoor endurance events, search and rescue teams, and remote expeditions.  The Fellow will be given financial support to work toward the requirements for Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) and/or advanced wilderness certifications and diplomas, such as the Diploma in Mountain Medicine (DiMM) , Diploma in Dive and Marine Medicine (DiDMM), and Wilderness EMS Medical Director.

 

Requirements

Applicants must have a medical degree from an accredited medical school, have graduated (or anticipate graduation) from an accredited U.S. Emergency Medicine Residency program, be board-certified or board-eligible in Emergency Medicine, and have an unrestricted license to practice Emergency Medicine.
