Hematology/Oncology Care Providers

The TEAM at Adult Hematology Oncology is a multidisciplinary team:

Medical Oncology Hematology Physicians

Hematology: Blood & blood-producing organs; disorders such as anemia, leukemia & lymphoma

Oncology: Cancer; cancer treatment such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, biotherapy, pain management

Fellow: A physician who has completed medical school, internship and residency and is pursuing subspecialty training

Resident: A physician who has finished medical school and is receiving training in a specialized area

Advance Practice Clinician (APC)

Physician Assistants (PA): Physician's Assistants are licensed to practice medicine and are supervised by a doctor. Their training is similar to a doctor's but they do not complete an internship or residency. Like a medical doctor, a physician's assistant can perform physical exams, order tests, diagnose illnesses and prescribe medicine, assist in surgery and provide preventive Healthcare counseling.

Nurse Practitioner (NP): Nurse Practitioner is a master's prepared, advanced practice registered nurse with advanced academic and clinical experience within a specific population. Like a medical doctor, a nurse practitioner can perform physical exams, order tests, diagnose illnesses and prescribe medicine, assist in surgery and provide preventive Healthcare counseling.

Registered Nurse (RN)

Professionals licensed by the State of New York to perform health assessments, educate patients and their families, administer medication and prescribed treatments, and contribute to the interdisciplinary team to plan and implement health care.

Medical Office Assistant (MOA)

Allied health care workers who provide supportive services in medical offices and clinics; they can do vital signs and weights, assist in care and comfort of patient, and schedule appointments.

Pharmacist

A person licensed to prepare and dispense drugs and medicines

Social Work (SW)

Licensed professionals that help people solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives
